Grand Canyon Pines

Size: 20" x 16" Oil Painting on Wood Panel, Framed

Afternoons have a glorious, moody light at the Grand Canyon. I could spend a lifetime painting all the different scenes and times of day in this magnificent place. For today, I focused on the soft greens of the pines with the purple and orange fading elements of the canyon. To capture the last of the light, I was caught in the pitch black darkness that quickly followed!

I guess there are thousands of compositions that can be painted of this Grand Canyon. I've painted just one. A humble painting of a landscape that is so vast, so spectacular that no words, no photos, and not even paintings will do it justice. I hope that if you've ever been there, my painting will remind you of the colors, mood, and endless horizon.

I chose to keep the brushstrokes in this painting very smooth, and fine - almost like I didn't even use a brush. Painting on a wood panel instead of a linen canvas adds to my ability to keep the brushstrokes to a barely visible presence.
